Humans can be seen as cost drivers, sources of failure or contamination. At the same time, they are essential to fulfilling complex tasks and processes and making decisions. While designing the TEXON, we comprehended this contradiction and created the best solution for blending human comfort and needs into a highly technological environment. With the new norms and requirements for high-tech production, research, and development, it becomes imperative to discuss the role of humans in an almost fully automated environment. Understanding this raises one question: How can people be valued in those harsh and cold working environments?
In an intense collaboration between Bimos and PHOENIX, a brand-shaping product came alive, continuing Bimos's legacy. When designing the TEXON, it was essential to understand the context and user needs in depth because requirements from different fields are blending, e.g., ESD compatibility in cleanrooms. However, ergonomic, sustainable, economical, and technical requirements must also be considered. A friendly appearance is achieved by simple, soft, and easy-to-clean surface treatment combined with dynamic linework that embodies the performant character and active seating. The TEXON appears as an approachable minimalist, inviting you to sit while performing like a high-priced office chair. The new chair is the new benchmark in the market and values human needs as essential to the modern working world.
While implementing the TEXON, we relied on our core competencies. We began with sketches describing soft, gentle, tensed surfaces meeting an iconic and dynamic X shape. The X element becomes the central ergonomic, functional and design part, housing the hinge for the backrest. Refining the design through sketches, models and Class-A-Surfacing, we can confidently say that the manufacturing process increased the market's production quality, which is only seen in car manufacturing nowadays. PHOENIX designed a unique CMF strategy to reduce Bimos' complexity, allowing the new owners of TEXON to choose from a variety of colours. The GOLD-Awarded (German Design Award) TEXON was launched at Orgatec in 2024 and has become the new benchmark for its category.
