    At the "Best of Year 2019" award ceremony by INTERIOR DESIGN Magazine New York, the AXOR MyEdition faucet collection from hansgrohe was awarded.The teams from PHOENIX and AXOR are extremely happy about this international award.

    AXOR MyEdition: a new dimension of individualization. With its clear design, it breaks new ground; With a customizable concept, it fulfills the longing for uniqueness. Their jet is also innovative: PowderRain - a sensual feeling on the skin - for the first time in a wash basin tap. The collection includes nine products for the wash basin, bidet and bathtub. The design is straightforward, monolithic and architectural - a large stage for self-fulfillment and your own creativity. The fittings consist of two product parts: body and plate. With over 225 design variants, the MyEdition collection picks up on the megatrend of individualization. “To make a statement of your personality through individual interiors is luxury. With the AXOR MyEdition collection, we have created a stage for our own creativity - colors, materials and patterns are the lowest denominator for a tailor-made fitting, ”says Andreas Diefenbach, Managing Partner, PHOENIX.

    Now a tradition at this time of year. HfG Schwäbisch Gmund product design students come to Stuttgart for feedback discussions on PHOENIX.

    Idea: To give students an insight into the everyday life of a design agency. From the first briefing, research and script, through model building to the final customer presentation. And like every year, the students, under the direction of Prof. Sigmar Willnauer, brought selected projects for a feedback discussion. HYGIENE was the headline of all her concepts. The PHOENIX designers Stefan Andreesen (Prinicipal Designer) and Winfried Werthmann (Designer) were able to contribute their experiences on this topic and with this feedback the students will now further develop the projects.     Leading Design: Using design strategically. How companies develop their full potential! The specialist book by Prof. Jan-Erik Baars fascinated our designers and was the occasion to exchange ideas during a stopover at PHOENIX in Stuttgart from Schwäbisch Gmünd to North Rhine-Westphalia. At the "after-work talk" there was a good discussion about the digital transformation and how to create new values ​​for customers as a designer.

    For more than 25 years, Jan-Erik Baars has worked at the interface between design and management. He is currently Professor of the CAS Certificate of Advanced Studies at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences (HSLU). With his publication "Leading Design" he has created a reference in the application of design in organizations, which confirms him as a leading expert in design strategy and development. Jan-Erik Baars writes and speaks actively about developments in the world of design and business. He is speaker at congresses and gives lectures at various universities. In the consulting agency Prenew GmbH he is partner of Prof. Philipp Thesen and Thomas Huber. Prenew is a strategy consultancy for the digital transformation and prepares companies for the future.

    At the beginning of 2019, the initiative Leaders for Climate Action was born in the Berlin start up scene. The idea: to use leaders as role models to draw attention to the climate crisis and ways to combat it. The leaders commit themselves to measuring, reducing and balancing their personal Co2 footprint.

    As a member of Leaders for Climate Action, our Managing Partner Andreas Diefenbach is making a statement for climate protection - a clear signal to further increase awareness of this elementary topic.

    DDC Award 2019

    Great pleasure. At the competition of the German Designer Club "DDC good Design 2019Cooktop extractor BORA Classic 2.0 became awared by Categorie "product". The award ceremony took place on November 22, 2019 in Frankfurt.



    BORA Classic 2.0 is an innovative and flexible hob extraction system with modular hobs and a central cooktop extractor. With the intuitive "sControl +" operation, hobs and cooktops are controlled centrally by simply moving the finger up and down in a ground glass trough or by direct tapping. Minimalist deep black and completely flush design.

    PHOENIX Lunch Talk

    On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, the students Vera Schindler-Zink, Alex Gottschalk and Christian Paulo (by the Hfg Schwäbisch Gmünd) came to the studio Stuttgart as speakers for our lunch talk. Lunch Talk at PHOENIX means learning from each other and using synergies. All employees are invited with the guest speakers.


    It was about the design of an operating concept that can be used by anyone, regardless of their abilities. An example of this was the Deutsche Bahn ticket vending machine, for which the students designed an adaptive user interface, and thus developed an alternative to the common "One-UI-Fits-All" solution. In short, the interface adapts to the user. In the end, this type of user interface should not only be easy to use for every user, but also proactively and actively address the individual impairments and preferences of the various users with the help of new technical interfaces. In this way, every user should be able to enjoy a pleasant user experience.

    Afterwards (at 12.30 pm), there was served a vegetarian meal from the PHOENIX kitchen plus good conversations in order to learn from one another, benefiting from synergies. Our guest speakers got insights into our world of Logic, Morals, and Magic.

    Together with STIEBEL ELTRON PHOENIX for the first time wins a Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design. The international jury honours the MyStiebel app with a "Winner". The award winning ceremony took place on 1 November 2019 in Berlin.

    Under the motto „In search of good design and creativity”, the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design finds the best designed brands and creative projects from designers, agencies and companies from around the globe every year in the areas of “Brands” and “Communication Design”.

    The MyStiebel app controls the STIEBEL ELTRON heat pump for the home. It conveniently helps to regulate the personal feel-good climate in a simple and sustainable way. Each page of the app has its focus set on just a few relevant content items so that users can take in the most pertinent infor­mation at a single glance. More complex settings, like the time schedule, are depicted in an easy-to-read format and can be operated intuitively without any previous training. A clear design with precise, finely wrought details communicates the corporate brand values and helps users to find what they need easily and quickly.

    For deli, one of the leading brands of stationery in China, PHOENIX has created another printer. The X10 by deli is a compact printer able to print on a wide variety of different materials.

    Natural materials like wood, paper, or leather and even sophisticated cosmetics applications are suitable for print. Thus, X10 invites its young target audience to experiment. Despite its complex technological interior construction, this small printer is compelling thanks to its design clarity which emphasises the characteristic elements in a user-friendly manner. With its length of merely 20cms, this white or blue inkjet printer doesn’t take up much space at all and thus fits into any modern home.

    Care-O-bot 4 and the Intelligence of the Future

    The Verband Deutscher Industriedesigner e.V. (VDID) [Association of German Industrial Designers] presents on 9 November 2019 – within the framework of a follow-up event to its conference “Intelligence of the Future” – Mojin Robotics featuring Caro-O-Bot 4 at the Fraunhofer Institute (IPA). Jens Wingerath, Design Business Manager, PHOENIX, reports on the design processes for this service robot.

    Care-O-bot 4 is a service robot which can be deployed to perform various services, e.g. as a sales assistant, a museum guide, or in patient care. It was developed at the Fraunhofer IPA in Stuttgart in close cooperation with Phoenix Design, and it is currently being distributed and developed further by Mojin Robotics GmbH.

    Jens Wingerath, Design Business Manager at Phoenix Design and VDID member, will talk about the iterations that went into designing Care-O-bot 4 in its present form – and present an outlook into the future. “The technical progress that goes along with the digital revolution opens up new perspectives and approaches that expand the classic understanding of design and present new challenges to industrial design,” says Wingerath. After all, designers shape processes and products into which Artificial Intelligence (AI) gets integrated. So what role does human-centred design play in development? Who decides about the future of the interaction between humans and machines? And which influence do designers wield in terms of the socio-cultural, ecological and economic challenges of the future?

    The live presentation of the service robot done by Dr. Ulrich Reiser of Mojin Robotics. The Fraunhofer IPA, represented by Dr. Werner Kraus, have guided the audience along robotics milestones.

    Designblok Prague – „Designing Authenticity“

    On 17–21 October 2019, the Prague International Design Festival will take place at the exhibition grounds of the Industrial Palace as well as in renowned design stores and galleries throughout the city. Andreas Diefenbach, Designer and Phoenix Design Managing Partner, will be on-site as a speaker on the first day of the event on behalf of our client Hansgrohe.

    First, Andreas Diefenbach will hold a lecture at the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague. At 6 pm, he will speak at the festival on the topic of “Designing Authenticity – the Design of AXOR MyEdition”.

    Hansgrohe will be present on-site with their own exhibition stand.

    The festival wants to promote trends, new products and developments in the world of design. The key sessions are focussed on three very special venues: the Superstudio, the Openstudio and the Art House.

    GOLD at Focus Open

    At the Focus Open 2019, the international design award of the German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, the winners have been chosen. GOLD goes to the water station LUQEL – Design by Phoenix Design. We are very happy indeed!

    The jurors for the “Focus Open” had to evaluate submissions in 18 categories this year. The product innovations came from China, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, and Slovakia. Among all submissions, the jurors selected a total of 59 award winners. 18 products received the premium award “Focus Gold” for outstanding design.

    The LUQEL Water Station also received a Focus Gold award, since it lives up to the highest aesthetic demands with its reduced forms and timelessly stylish design. This water treatment unit, which filtrates tap water in several stages and provides a healthy and enjoyable addition of minerals, was developed and designed in close collaboration with the LUQEL team. The digital touchscreens can be operated intuitively, and it works rather noiselessly, using energy efficiently.

    "A coherent and consistent concept that elevates water from an incidental beverage to the status of a precious semi-luxury. The absence of plastic components is exemplary, the handling well thought through. The monolithic housing with barely perceptible seams testifies to the high quality of the product and the design of the system’s inner workings is no less sophisticated," says the jury.

    On 9 October 2019, on their way to Schiltach in the Black Forest, interior designers from China and Taiwan stopped by at Phoenix Design in Stuttgart – the birthplace of many AXOR and hansgrohe products. "Design made in Germany" is still magical!

    Alvaro Witt, Senior Product Designer, and Yishu Tan, UX Designer at Phoenix Design, presented the studio in Chinese, too. Where do we come from? How do we work? What does research, teamwork or model building look like at PHOENIX? On concrete examples such as AXOR MyEdition and AXOR Uno, the Asian visitors also learned about our thoughts behind the design.

    The designers were accompanied by Stefan Hoske, Key Account Manager Architecture and Design at Hansgrohe Group.

    Phoenix Design, together with its clients Hansgrohe and LUQEL, wins three ICONIC AWARDS 2019: Innovative Architecture. All three submitted products receive the highest award "best of best" in this international competition.

    After four successes at the ICONIC AWARDS 2019: Innovative Interior, now the next awards follow. With the ICONIC AWARDS: Innovative Architecture, the best architectural and design solutions are honoured each year.

    Two designs for Hansgrohe have received a "best of best" award: the Rainfinity shower family and the RainTunes shower scenarios.

    With Rainfinity, PHOENIX has designed a new archetype which integrates itself seamlessly into modern architecture thanks to its geometrical lines and soft surfaces. "The stylish white colour of the fixtures contrasts beautifully with the black spray zone and is a refreshing alternative to ubiquitous chrome.     For LUQEL, Phoenix Design has designed a water station, where water from the faucet gets filtered in several steps and enriched with minerals in a healthy and enjoyable manner. "With its formally reduced, timelessly elegant design, the LUQEL Water Station meets even the highest aesthetic standards, lends itself to intuitive operation via a digital touchscreen, is quiet and energy-efficient and, with a depth of only 24 cm, is amazingly compact – all of which clearly demonstrates that every aspect of this product was carefully thought through," as the panel of jurors states in its decision.

    Wir gratulieren Silvia Olp, Head of Communications bei Phoenix Design, zur 1. Vorsitzenden des aed Stuttgart e.V.. Anfang Oktober war die Mitgliederversammlung des aed e.V. mit der Wahl des neuen Vorstandes und des neuen Beirates. Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. Werner Sobek war in 2004 Initiator der aed Idee und bis Ende September 2019 Vorsitzender des Vorstandes, auch Silvia Olp war von Anbeginn im Vorstand des aed aktiv. Als Ehrenpräsident wird Sobek dem aed e.V. auch in Zukunft mit Rat zur Seite stehen.

    Über den aed Stuttgart e.V.
    Der aed Verein zur Förderung von Architektur, Engineering und Design ist eine von Stuttgarter Architekten, Ingenieuren und Designern gegründete Initiative, deren Ziel es ist, die große Gestaltungskompetenz in der Region Stuttgart – vom Produkt- und Grafikdesign über Multimedia und Engineering bis hin zur Architektur – zu fördern und der Öffentlichkeit nahezubringen. In den vergangenen 15 Jahren konnte der aed e.V. an über 100 verschiedenen Orten mehr als als 400 Veranstaltungen mit über 700 namhaften Referenten und mit mehr als 40.000 Besuchern durchführen.     Meet & Match – Like a Gentleman

    On 26 September 2019, BIOPRO Baden-Wuerttemberg together with the coordination centre for telemedicine in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg and the nursing care network "Pflegenetz Heilbronn e.V." will host the event "Meet & Match" on the topic of Robotics in nursing care. Moritz Kemper, Principal Designer with Phoenix Design, participates with a section on Care-O-bot4.

    Under the title "Like a Gentleman – About the Design and the User Experience of Care-O-bot", Moritz Kemper will be one of six speakers talking about the design that went into this project. The service robot was designed by Phoenix Design in close cooperation with Franhofer IPA, and is marketed today by Mojin Robotics. A friendly look, and emotions transported via light signals, gestures, and facial expressions projected onto the interaction surface that's forming the head, serve the purpose of interacting with humans. It will be shown which benefits for nursing care may result form this.

    The service robot has already received a "Red Dot Award: Best of the Best", the highest award level in this international design competition. "Care-O-bot 4 is the expression of a new way of understanding the capacity for interaction of a robot with its surroundings. (...) Designed with softly rounded corners and soft proportions, this robot is fascinating in its subservient friendliness," as the jurors appreciated back in 2015.

Together with its client STIEBEL ELTRON, Phoenix Design represented by Design Business Manager Felix Mattes showed how an initially small design project may end up transforming an entire company.
